Carp Fishing In France at La Petite Martiniere
One of the great advantages to working in the fishing industry is meeting some great people. Not great because they are the worlds most renowned anglers, just great because they are nice people who share a passion for our sport. Three years ago, at a fishing tournament we met Matt Emery, the owner of La Petite Martiniere, an intimate venue to go carp fishing in France, situated in the Val de Loire region in the North West of the country. Since then Matt has become a firm friend, and as such he extended us an invitation to go fishing on his lake.
Vive La Petite Martiniere différence
Now, let me tell you, his lake is something a bit different….and that’s what makes it interesting. So, what makes this lake different? Simply its ability to cater for almost any angling style and knowledge level. “Really?!” I hear you say. Results, they say, speak louder than words. In a three-day trip, the Finygo team made up of: a carper, pleasure angler, and match angler (joke in there somewhere I am sure?) all had personal PBs. What’s more surprising is that the lake is just 1.5 acres in size, and beautifully managed. The perfect intimate venue for many.
First and foremost a great carp fishery in intimate settings, this PB for Katy came in at 37Ibs
Perfect for a ‘quick trip’
La Petite Martiniere is about a 4 hour drive from the Eurotunnel, or 1.5 hours from the nearest airport. Getting up early (like we did), you can be fishing by 2pm the same day you leave the UK. This makes it ideal for long weekend carp fishing trips in France. What’s more, the owners are more than happy to organise food and bait for you. So, if like us, you’re keen to fish, rather than hit the local supermarket, it’s perfect. If you don’t fancy lugging all your gear, across the channel, and want the nice easy flight option, La Petite Martiniere offers tackle equipment hire of essentials like bivvies, and rods. You just bring your own terminal tackle.

Have it all to yourself
If you or your fishing group want a lake to yourselves, this is the perfect place. There is a single fixed price for hiring the lake for a week. It doesn’t matter if it’s just you, or you and three mates, it’s the same price and you have the entire lake to yourself. There are 6 built pegs, two of which are doubles, and lots of room between them.
Well crafted swims, with a ton of space in an ideal setting, any takers?
Big Carp and More
What we found so attractive about his lake was the hassle free, beautiful setting, with great fishing for a whole bunch of species. As a mixed bunch of match, pleasure and carp anglers, we caught specimen tench, perch, roach, carp and crucians. The largest carp we caught was 37 Ib, biggest Tench 6 Ib, biggest crucian 2.5 lb…. oh, and a Pike at 6 lb! The carp, tench, and crucian all being PBs for the lucky catcher. Make no mistake this water has something for everyone.
A great carp fishery, but don’t overlook the other fishing.
Help when you want it
The most notable thing about the 37 Ib carp was it was caught by the pleasure angler in our group with the least experience. The owner Matt sat with Katy, showed her how to tie her rigs, and helped with watercraft. The result? 10 minutes after her first cast, a 37 Ib lump! If you’re a seasoned carper it’s a great place to fish, complete novice, or if looking to learn a bit more, the owners are always on hand to help, just as much or as little as you like.
